Best guns for home protection

With crime on the rise humanity is slowly sinking down the drain. Having the best gun for home protection might not be such a bad idea. Call it paranoia, but better safe than sorry, right? If you have kids around the house, though, you may want to be careful where you keep your firepower. There are many kinds of guns these days. Each one of them is meant to suit a specific need for a specific person. So it is very okay if the type of gun a friend uses is different from yours. However, there are some important things I would like to clarify before we go “guns blazing”. So to speak.

First, you should pick the caliber that works for you. Recoil is as real as it gets, my good friend. And the last thing you would want is to get knocked out cold by your own gun in the middle of a dangerous situation. Caliber will determine how much recoil a gun will have. Make sure that you also keep your gun hidden away securely. Check out http://www.extremesafes.com/best-hidden-gun-safes/ for more details.  It may also be a good idea to hit the shooting range with your gun a couple of times so you can get used to it.

Secondly, you need to know how to pick the right projectiles (bullets). It is always a good idea to pick the ones that don’t penetrate too far. The last thing you would want is to have your missed shot hit your neighbor’s kid in the next house. So in this case, heavier and bigger rounds are always the best way to go. Frangible ammo can also be a good idea. Most people assume that hollow bullets don’t go through walls because they are meant to expand. What most people don’t know is that these bullets only expand when they come into contact with a wet surface. And a drywall tends to be pretty dry in normal of circumstances.

Now, that we have dealt with issues pertaining to owning the best guns for home protection, let’s get to the fun stuff.

Here is my list of 7 guns best suited for home protection.

1. The Ruger SP101

This is your classic revolver. It is a hard hitter and it is available in a number of calibers. Their hammer may be internal or external and they usually weigh around 25 ounces. As for the ammo, you can have the .357 magnum cartridge for maximum stopping impact. However, for lesser recoil, I would suggest the .327 magnum or .28 SP. The bullet cylinder holds 5 rounds. This gun has great point-and-shoot capabilities so you don’t need too much training to use this heavy jabber. It is also a great choice if you’re looking to have a concealed weapon. For ladies, this gun would fit right into your purse.

2. FNX 45

This is a large capacity magazine gun chambered in .45 ACP designed for use with both hands. Its magazines usually carry 15 rounds, although, 10 round mags are also available. This is a hard hitting gun guaranteed to get the job done and toss that nasty burglar to the floor. You can even mount a flashlight or laser on this gun for better aiming and vision at night. There are excellent backstrap options with this so it feels more natural and comfortable in your hand. This gun also comes with safety features just in case you forget your gun on the table next to the kids (DO NOT forget your gun on the table next to the kids!)

3. Kel-Tec PMR-30

This is a 30 round capacity gun chambered in .22 magnum. Thanks to its highly reduced recoil, it has amazing accuracy coupled with fiber optic sights for an added edge. It also has safety and an accessory rail for that flashlight or laser when you need them. Now, before you start complaining about how weak this gun is, do bear in mind that not everyone can handle that huge recoil. Especially ladies and old men. Like I mentioned earlier, getting knocked out by your own gun is never a good idea.

5. S&W Governor

This little revolver bad boy is a real, live hand-cannon. Literally! It shoots .410 shotgun shells, .45 colts and even .45 ACPs. Of course, you would need to install moon clips for the .45 ACPs. Unlike the Ruger SP101, this gun holds 6 rounds. This makes for the perfect of concealed weapons, but it comes with a very high caliber coupled with an insane recoil. It may not be the best option for a purse gun, but it makes for a great home defense weapon. I would seriously pity that fool who breaks into a house with this kind of weapon as it is considered as one of the best guns for home protection.

6. Desert Eagle

This semi-automatic ambidextrous pistol works with the .357 magnum, .44 magnum and .45 AEs. Weighing in about 2 Kgs, this weapon of mass destruction carries 7 to 9 rounds. It also comes with safety just in case you decide you misfire your foot.  Now, while there is a lot of hype about this gun – too heavy, poor accuracy, prone to jamming – hear me out for a second. This is an extremely powerful gun and it is great to have in the countryside. With a little practice, you will find it to be pretty accurate too.

7. Glock 19

If you’re looking for that one gun that would fit in most people’s hands at home, the perfect caliber and with ample flexibility, then the G19 is for you. It is highly customizable to anyone’s needs and has an ample frame size. It uses 9 mm rounds with a 15 bullet capacity.
